You might be thinking, how can you organize your life, and where should you start? Although this can seem overwhelming, I’m going to show you five things you can start doing today to organize your life.  If you need convincing on why you should be organized. Read about the many benefits of being organized here.
1. Try using the one-minute rule
Gretchen Rubin, in her Happiness podcast, made the one-minute rule famous. In my opinion, the one-minute rule is genius. You can use the rule to make cleaning your home easier or use it in other areas as well.
Here is how it works. Look for tasks that you can complete in one minute or less. Using housework as an example, it could be emptying the trash, putting a load of laundry in the washing machine, or clearing off a countertop. These are all small tasks that take very little time to complete.
Often, we will put things off because we think we do not have the time to do them. However, doing tasks that take just one minute and following the one-minute rule gets things done without feeling like too much effort.
You might have your keys in your hand and are ready to head out of the door and take just one minute to do something small before you leave. Try it, and you will be surprised how much more you get done with this seemingly insignificant one-minute rule.
2. Use a money management app
Life organization is not just all about cleaning! It involves every aspect of your life, including your finances and money management.
If you have trouble managing your finances, a money management app could solve the problem and be just what you need. It will help you track your income and expenses, as well as keep track of all of your spending.
You can then use the information you have gained from the app to determine where you should make changes concerning your finances.
At the very least, you should track your expenses. Knowing where your money went each month will enable you to make wise decisions and stop buying stuff you don’t need.Â
This can help you to drastically cut your expenses.
Becoming more organized with your finances will not only help you to save money, but it can also help you save from incurring undue stress.

3. Focus and schedule three important tasks each day
I consider this to be the one thing that keeps me moving towards my goal and making progress each day. That is to prioritize and focus on three important tasks each day. Having a never-ending to-do list can be overwhelming. Sometimes, when I feel overwhelmed, I will shut down. Focusing on just three important tasks scheduled for each day helps to eliminate this overwhelm.
Once I have completed the three important tasks that I have scheduled for the day, it creates momentum, and I will continue to be productive throughout the rest of the day. It also becomes habitual to tick off the tasks each day and leads to a more organized life. Â
My favorite way to keep track of my three most important tasks for the day is to use this 5 minute journal. Not only are you keeping a gratitude journal, but I love this format for also getting the three most important tasks recorded and checked off.
4. Make sure everything has a home
It is hard to become organized if your things don’t have a place where they belong. Take a walk around your house and make sure there is a home for everything.
It is a good idea to keep similar items together. For example, if you currently have numerous different types of items in the same drawer, it will be challenging to find what you need. Creating set places for all of your belongings is one of the most important things you should do to lead an organized life.
5. Don’t neglect yourself
Finally, all of the best organizational tips will not be beneficial to you if you neglect yourself.
Make sure you are taking the time to take care of yourself. It is hard to take care of a home or others if you are neglecting yourself.
There are lots of things you can do to take care of yourself. You can start a journal, start exercising, start meditating and declutter your space. All of these things can contribute to a more organized life.
Another thing you can do to take care of yourself is to take up a new hobby. When you take care of yourself first, you will find it easier to develop better, more organized habits.
There are many different ways to organize your life, and the above are just 5 to get you started. Â
